It all began in 2012 while our son was playing in a 12U tournament.
A teammate mentioned that his dad had just lost his job and would not have the money to continue on the travel team the following year. This young player was not bitter, yet delivered the news in a humble way showing a deep sense of understanding and maturity beyond his years. I was quickly reminded of my past when I coached tennis in the South Bronx to a group of young men in a similar situation. The ability to play sports offered these young men hope and an alternative to life on the streets. They built self esteem, developed strong relationships and realized the power of working hard at their passion.
My wife, Sandra and I agreed that starting Pinstripes Sports Dreams Foundation was a way to give back to a sport that has been in the heart of our family's life. All youths deserve the chance to pursue their passion regardless of their economic status. Every dollar raised goes towards scholarships to be used for equipment, private coaching lessons, team fees and travel expenses. The foundation has an advisory board with MiLB players Chris Vasami and Scott McGregor plus experts in the fields of sports training and peak performance.
Our goal is to offer mentoring and technical expertise to help these players reach the next level--perhaps even earn a college scholarship. Give the gift of baseball to a deserving youth player or team.
